Vyacheslav Zagonek (1919 - 1994)

  Vyacheslav Zagonek was born on December 19, 1919 in Irkutsk. In 1939 Vecheslav Zagonek was drafted into the Red Army and took part in the Winter War and as antiaircrafter in the Great Patriotic War of the Soviet people against Nazi Germany and its allies.In 1950 he graduated from the Repin Institute of Fine Arts, Boris Ioganson's workshop. He studied at Mikhail Bernstein, Alexander Zaitsev, Henrikh Pavlovsky, Semyon Abugov, Gleb Savinov. Participant exhibitions since 1939. Member ofthe Leningrad Union of Artists since 1950. He painted landscapes, genre and historical compositions, portraits. Personal exhibitions in Leningrad (1966, 1990), Moscow (1966). Honored Artist of the RSFSR (1963). Laureate of the silver medal of the Academy of Arts of the USSR (1965). Honored Artist of the Arts of the RSFSR (1968). Corresponding member of the Academy of Arts of the USSR (1976). Laureate of the State Prize of the RSFSR named after I. Repin (1977). People's Artist of the RSFSR (1979). People's Artist of the USSR (1985). Full member of the Academy of Arts of the USSR (1988). The works of Vyacheslav Zagonek are in the State Russian Museum, the State Tretyakov Gallery, in numerous museums and private collections in Russia, China, Japan, Germany, Italy and other countries.
