Alexander Sokolov was born on December 1, 1918 in the village of Alyoshki, Borisoglebsky district, Voronezh region. He was a veteran of World War II, participated in the defense of the Leningrad. He was wounded, he had many military orders. In 1950 he graduated from the Repin Institute of Fine Arts, the workshop of Victor Oreshnikov. He studied with Benjamin Belkin, Mikhail Bernshtein, Pavel Naumov, Andrei Mylnikov. Participation in exhibitions since 1950. Member of the Leningrad Union of Artists since 1950. He painted portraits, genre and thematic compositions, landscapes, still-lifes. Candidate of Art History (1954). Honored Artist of the RSFSR (1970). Works by Alexander Sokolov are in the State Russian Museum, the State Tretyakov Gallery, in museums and private collections in Russia, Britain, France, the United States and other countries.
