Yuri Neprintsev (1909 - 1996)

  Yuri Neprintsev was born on August 15, 1909 in Tbilisi, Georgia. In 1938 he graduated from the Painting department of the Repin Institute of Painting, Sculpture and Architecture in Leningrad, the workshop of Isaak Brodsky. He was engaged with Vasily Savinsky, Pavel Naumov, Alexander Lyubimov. Participant exhibitions since 1928. Member of the the Leningrad Union of Artists since 1938. In 1941 Yuri Neprintsev voluntarily joined the Red Army. He fought in the Second World War, he served in the Baltic Fleet. In 1944 Yuri Neprintsev was awarded the Order of the Red Star. He had demobilized in 1946. He painted portraits, landscapes, genre compositions. The artist was brought to the world by the painting "Rest after the Battle, Vasily Terkin" (1951). Professor of Painting of the Repin Institute (1954-1996). Corresponding member of the Academy of Arts of the USSR (1953). Honored Artist of the RSFSR (1956). People's Artist of the RSFSR (1963). Laureate of the silver medal of the Academy of Arts of the USSR (1963). Full member of the Academy of Arts of the USSR (1970). Personal exhibitions in Moscow, Sverdlovsk, Gorky, Saratov (1959) and Leningrad (1959, 1989). Yuri Neprintsev's works are in the State Russian Museum, the State Tretyakov Gallery, in the largest museums and private collections in Russia, China, Britain, France, the USA and other countries.
